One of the critical features of any bedroom is storage. And if you are in the process of remodelling your home, one significant decision you need to focus on is choosing a wardrobe for your bedroom. And with the broad selection available, you are likely going to end up deciding between a fitted or a freestanding wardrobe.

How do you determine which choice is better according to your needs? Let’s compare the pros and cons of each option so that you can make a well-informed decision.

Fitted wardrobe: pros and cons

Fitted wardrobes are fashionable because you can plan the room’s floor layout and make sure that the available space gets maximised. The manufacturer will custom-build the wardrobe dimensions so that the frame fits from the entire floor to ceiling span.

The features of the wardrobe can also be customised for your needs. You can select how many racks and drawers you want to be added. You can choose whether you want a sliding or a pull-out door. There are so many other details you can adjust so that you end up with the perfect wardrobe that not only suits your style but functional too.

Another excellent benefit of fitted wardrobes is how it becomes another architectural feature seamlessly integrated into the room’s design. It can help hide any awkward corners or spaces in your room. And, since the storage space is built-in to the wall, the room will look taller and more spacious.

Now, if you think about the disadvantages, there are still a few. For instance, many people like to have the option of moving furniture around the room every once in a while. Of course, you cannot move a fitted wardrobe; hence you need to decorate around it. Also, a wardrobe with custom features and dimensions will be a significant investment but will certainly add value to your home.

Freestanding wardrobe: pros and cons

Freestanding wardrobes are easy to move around in case you want to rearrange or redecorate your room. You can also find furniture that will easily match the wardrobe’s design. Also, you can easily replace or resell it in case you need a new wardrobe. Another notable advantage of a freestanding wardrobe is convenience. For people who don’t have time to get a custom wardrobe built, a freestanding one will work in the meantime.

But unlike fitted wardrobes where you get to take time and design your desired storage space, with freestanding wardrobes, you get what you pay for. Sizes and styles are often limited, and eventually, you will find yourself struggling to find more space to store your things. A freestanding wardrobe wastes a lot of available space in your room, and organisation is a lot harder too.

Conclusion

Freestanding wardrobes are indeed more affordable and available right away, but they don’t make for a good investment. If you want to build a dream bedroom, consider fitted wardrobes instead because these will stand the test of time. High-quality custom wardrobes will be an excellent feature for any room and will make storage a breeze.
