For most people, living a life with zero waste isn’t really something that they’re looking to do. But since most people realize that we need to be better at taking care of the world around us, it is worth it to try to find simple ways that you can create less waste at home while also choosing better products to use on a daily basis.

To help you in doing this, here are three simple ways to cut down the plastic you use at home.

Stop Buying Products In Plastic

One of the first things you can start doing to have less plastic at your home is to stop buying products that come in plastic containers whenever you’re able to do so.

In many instances, you can find an option for a product at the store that doesn’t have a plastic container or isn’t in as much plastic as some alternatives. By choosing to purchase this product as opposed to a product that uses more plastic, you will have less plastic to dispose of once you’re done with the product. You can easily start to buy products with no plastic at all if you choose to get items out of bulk bins rather than buying things that are already portioned out for you.

Make Fewer Purchases In General

Another thing you can try that will help you use less plastic and create less waste in general is to make fewer purchases on a more regular basis.

Especially for things that you buy over and over again, like beauty products or other consumables, you should try to institute a one-in-one-out rule in your home. By doing this, you’ll ensure that you’re using a product to its fullest extent before getting another one. This helps you to not buy as much of a product, be it plastic or not, and saves on both materials and packaging.

Start Getting Reusable Items

If you look at your household garbage cans right now, you can likely find tons of items that are single-use that could be replaced by reusable versions. Whether they’re made of plastic or not, choosing to ditch any and all single-use items for reusable versions can really help you be more sustainable. Especially when it comes to things like grocery bags, zippered storage bags, plastic cutlery and more, using more study, sustainable versions of the same can be a great way to use less plastic and have less of a carbon footprint for your family.

If you’re wanting to use less plastic at home but aren’t sure how to best go about doing this, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find ways to eliminate some of the plastic you’re already using and keep from bringing even more plastic into your home.
