5 Strategies to Optimize Your App for the Google Play Store

Smartphones are a huge technology that has taken over the world. But a smartphone wouldn’t be what it is without apps.

These downloadable items make life so much easier, whether they keep you in contact with friends or keep you amused in a waiting room.

Creating a successful app, however, is not as easy as it may seem. There are many steps that go into the process, from idea development to research and marketing. In the end, you want an app that people are well aware of and can easily find in the Google Play Store.

Where should you begin? Here are five simple ways that you can optimize your app for the Google Play Store.

Make sure the app serves a purpose

Any good app has to start with a good idea, but that good idea has to come from somewhere. It is important to first look at something that the general population wants or needs. It won’t do well if there is no desire to use it.

Knowing what the people want goes hand in hand with having a full understanding of their desires. Research the app concept completely to get a good grasp on what the population is looking for.

The app you create should effectively pose a solution to whatever it is the people need. It is important to market the app in a way that shows exactly what the app does so it is clear to understand why people should use it.

Show off what you have created, but also allow it to be shared easily. Embed links to social media sharing within your app to allow users to do marketing for you.

If a user likes the app, they are more likely to share it with friends and family. That is why it is so important to create the app with the needs of the general population in mind.

The company SkinVision has this concept down. They saw a problem with the rise in skin cancer and created a reliable app to offer solutions for the population.

Their medical app is able to scan spots on the skin to allow patients to compare them to potentially dangerous skin spots. Users can also track changes in the spot over time and, if found to be dangerous, be put in contact directly with a medical professional.

Creating a good, useful app is the first step in the process of getting downloads from the Google Play Store. Do what the people need and market it effectively to gain more users over time.

Have a well-designed app and app icon

Having a well-designed app will ensure the satisfaction of users. They should never really be aware of the design because of its ease of use. The only time a user will take notice of the design of the app is if it is bad.

According to Digital Authority Partners, an app that has easy-to-use technology will ultimately gain more downloads. People are more inclined to stick with an app when they understand how to navigate, and will likely share it with friends.

It also does not hurt to use attractive colors and text styles along with eye-catching images. If it looks pretty, people will stick around to find out more about it.

Before even opening your app, the user gets a first impression based on the Google Play Store app icon you design. It should tell the user about your app’s purpose but be creative and engaging.

Draw in more users from the Google Play Store through an interesting image that tells why that app will best suit their needs.

App titles and descriptions matter

According to ComboApp, the best way to optimize any online content is through the use of keywords, and this holds true for app development too. Research what your competitors are saying and what your ideal consumers are searching to find the right words to use.

When creating the app title, it is important to utilize keywords to appear as high in the rankings as possible on the list of apps in the Google Play Store.

The Google Play Store does not have a keyword search, so using them in the title is really the only way to rank highly. If you are not in the top 25 on the list, most users won’t even see your app, to begin with.

This is also true when writing up the short and long descriptions for your app. The short description is the first information about the app that potential users will come across. This should be descriptive and use as many keywords as possible to get the user to open the app.

The first paragraph of the long description should also contain the most keywords to rank more highly in the Google Play Store. These words get more users to see the app and increase the number of downloads.

Check reviews and ratings regularly

We are told not to care what other people think, but we oftentimes won’t use a product or service based on a negative review. This happens with apps as well. People won’t download an app with too many bad reviews or a low star rating.

To help optimize your app in the Google Play Store, keep yourself up-to-date on new reviews, both positive and negative.

Respond to the negative reviews quickly and frequently to show that you care about the users’ needs. This gives you more credibility as a developer and shows you are working to improve any bugs or issues.

The positive reviews on your app help make a good first impression, to show potential new users what to expect after downloading. They also show developers what works well and does not need changing.

Ratings are also important for getting ranked highly in the Google Play Store. Highly rated apps will appear earlier on the list.

Prompt users to rate your app at important moments during their use. This may be when they beat a level or create a finished product. That way, you will get higher ratings because of a happy customer.

A/B Testing is vital

A/B testing involves creating two versions of your app listing that only have one element that is different. Then, you compare the traffic rates of the two versions to see which is more effective. This will also allow you to recognize any changes that need to be made.

You will want to continue this testing until you find out what sells the best for your app. You may think your app is perfect, but users might find a flaw you did not recognize.

The users’ opinions are what matter most because they are the ones using the app. Having happy customers is the best way to ensure a successful app in the Google Play Store.

No app is complete without users, and there will be no users without Google Play Store optimization. Complete a few of these tasks in order to skyrocket your app to the top of the list.
