Boxer Dog: Temperament and Personality

Many people these days think of their pets as a family rather than another animal. This phenomenon is known as the “humanization of animals”. As per this site, most of those owners also think of them as a family rather than something that is supposed to be owned (https://www.wired.com/2015/04/people-care-pets-humans/). This is why many also want to have them at home.

There are a lot of other reasons why people want them at home. As they are already a part of the family, they can be a stress reliever like some people view their children. It gives psychological support for them because they can give joy to their owners. Whether it is a common animal like a cat or an exotic one, it is a great feeling to have them around.

A Dog’s Extraordinary Life

However, there is one animal that has always been a constant part of human life. It is the dog, as they are known as man’s best friend. They have been a member of our society for a long time. Civilizations may have come and passed, but they are the ones that always remain. Treat them right, and you will have them for life.

One of the most popular dog breeds is the boxer. It originated from Germany and has been introduced into the UK Kennel club more than a hundred years ago. Also, it is considered as the eleventh most popular breed in the United States and for good reason. You can also look at this page to learn more about them. Or, you can read our brief description of them below.

Anyway, boxers are working dogs, and they can be active in so many ways.

In official records, the boxer is classified as a working dog. They are stocky and very muscular. Also, they can be identified through their iconic face, a rather fiercer version of the bulldog with an underbite. Their coloring ranges from browns, blacks, and the occasional white.

They are also known to be proportional to the rest of their body size. As adults, their average weight can reach up to 60 pounds making them great for those who want bigger than average dogs.

What’s a Boxer Like

As to their personality, they are quite intelligent compared to other breeds. As they were workers in the field, they could easily follow rules and directions. They are also fiercely loyal and protective of the people around them. This is also the reason why they are social creatures. These dogs want to be around people all the time as it is a part of their instinct. It is what they were bred for.

Meanwhile, they can be rather loud. They are huge barkers, which is great for those who want to guard dogs. Even though they do not attack humans all that much, they can still get provoked as with any other animal. You need to train them to be obedient and heed your calls right away. It is also better to raise them from being a puppy, but adoption is also a good way to have a dog.

On the other hand, they can be quite noisy, and this turns into the negative. You do not want to have them in closed neighborhoods, or you will be facing a lot of complaints. However, this can be quite rare, and it does bark if there is a valid reason for it. Keep an eye and ear out for them since they can be active with this trait.

Also, they need to be physically active all the time. If you keep them at home, they can turn destructive and bite everything that they see from furniture and sometimes even people and other animals. They have a lot of energy to burn, so you need to be active with them as well.

Exercise is important to any other dog, but with the boxer, it is almost more important. You have a breed that has been made to be out in the fields chasing other wildlife. Keeping them in closed spaces is not a good idea. Running with them is also great since they are very social and active creatures.

Boxers are great for people who want to have a guard and family dog at the same time. They are great with kids due to their loyal and protective nature. As with any other dog though, keep in mind that how you treat them will still reflect on their temperament. Keep them healthy and well, and you will have a good friend for a long time.
